Bike Racks

There is a certain protocol that should be followed when using bike racks. The fact is that these bike racks are not always big and not always sturdy. Because of this, there is a little bike rack etiquette.

When using bike racks:

• Do not take up more than your space – Some people like to lock up their bike lengthwise along the bike rack. The problem with this is that it is inconsiderate to others who want to use the bike rack because it does not leave any free spaces for them. While people who park like this may not care, they probably would care if somebody got angry enough to damage the bike blocking their way.

• Do not lock up by the wheel – Some people lock up their bikes by chaining one of the wheels to the bike racks. The problem with this occurs when somebody who wants to steal the bike simply realizes that all he/she needs to do is remove the wheel and take the bike. Some thieves are able to remove these wheels quickly.

By following these unwritten rules when using bike racks, chances are there will not be any problems encountered when you leave your bike on a bike rack.
